Immigrant Justice

About the Team

Advocating for just treatment for all migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers.

Our Mission

We invite all members of the Marianist Family into a process of sharing, reflection, education, prayer and action leading toward greater immigrant justice. We hope that through our work, our Marianist Family may operate as a part of the Body of Christ that is free from the constructs of racial and immigrant injustice.

Why is the Marianist Family Called to Work on This Issue?

Mary, along with Joseph and Jesus, were refugees themselves, fleeing possible death at the hands of King Herod. The Church has named Mary the mother of immigrants and refugees. In addition, Mary proclaims in her Magnificat that God favors the poor and marginalized. So, we in the Marianist Family, who have a special relationship to Mary, are called to stand with those who are forced to immigrate.

We are also a Family that emphasizes inclusion. We believe that we grow as people the more we embrace diversity.

Why is the Marianist Family called to work on this issue? This commitment to inclusivity challenges us today to be advocates for immigrants who may be different from us, but also bring a richness to our lives.

All too often today, the antagonism shown toward immigrants is a reflection of a subtle, and sometimes not too subtle, racism. The Marianist Family has committed to ridding itself of racism and so we must stand with our immigrant brothers and sisters who are the victims of raci.
